Other suppliers may claim to offer the same service, but only Toyoda engineers can rebuild a Toyoda spindle to OEM (original equipment manufacturer) specifications. This is because our spindle construction procedures and tolerance dimensions are proprietary information.
Performance testing is done with equipment specifically designed for this purpose. Only Toyoda can assemble each spindle according to the original factory prints. No other supplier can replicate this demanding process.
If you are ever in need of spindle repair or rebuilding on your Toyoda machining center, call the experts at Toyoda. The company’s Chicago facility has a state-of-the-art, factory-approved spindle rebuild department.
Trained and experienced technicians inspect the failed unit to identify the source of the problem. Every seal and O-ring is inspected for possible failure. The findings are backed up with written documentation and photographs.
All components within the assembly are then cleaned and deburred. The spindle housing is washed in a 160-degree F solution to remove oil and debris. Pneumatic, hydraulic and lubrication ports are thoroughly cleaned by hand to ensure that all contaminants are eliminated from within the housing.
Every component is reassembled according to the original factory print. The finished unit is balanced on a two-plane, hard bearing Schenck balancer. The CAB 690 controls and latest software bring the spindle to a 3.0g/mm tolerance. This data is also documented and available for review.
Hydraulic cylinders, lubrication systems and flow meters are all leak-checked and individually examined for proper operation and force. The temperature of each bearing is monitored through exhaust ports during run-in.
Peak-to-peak vibration numbers are examined. If these numbers exceed certain tolerances, the process is stopped. If any part of the testing process does not meet Toyoda’s rigorous standards, the entire test fails. The unit is again disassembled to determine the cause.
If a part is damaged but can be reliably used again, it is reworked to OEM specifications. This avoids having the customer purchase extra parts. If the component is deemed unusable, it will be replaced with an original Toyoda part. There are more than 20,000 different parts in inventory at our Chicago facility.
In some cases, Toyoda will also build and test core spindles and place them in storage. These backup units allow a one-day spindle change out whenever the customer requires it.
